Job summary

Higgins is seeking an experienced Operator to join our Maintenance Team across the Wairarapa road network. This hands-on role combines plant operation with road maintenance and civil construction activities, contributing to safe, high-quality works.

You will operate excavators and plant, assist with drainage and pavement repairs, and support routine maintenance and emergency responses. A strong safety culture and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators and civil construction plant.
• Class 2 licence with WTR endorsements; Class 5 licence preferred.
• Experience in road maintenance or civil construction.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Strong commitment to health and safety.
• Good communication and a team-focused attitude.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and other plant for road maintenance.
• Transport plant and load materials.
• Carry out pavement and drainage repairs and minor works.
• Assist with routine maintenance and emergency response across the network.
• Complete earthworks, excavations, trenching, and reinstatement.
• Read and follow work instructions, site plans and maintenance schedules.
• Support temporary traffic management when required.
• Work with Supervisors to deliver efficient and safe work.
