Job summary

Higgins Wairarapa is seeking an experienced Operator to join our growing team in New Zealand. This hands-on role combines plant operation with civil construction activities across multiple projects, supporting crews to safely deliver quality outcomes while contributing to a positive team environment.

You will operate excavators and other civil construction plant, assist with earthworks and drainage, and help read plans and follow site instructions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating excavators and civil construction plant.
• Full Class 2 Licence with WTR endorsements.
• Class 4 Licence is advantageous.
• Ability to read plans and work safely outdoors.
• Strong teamwork and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and civil construction plant.
• Assist with earthworks, roading, drainage, and related tasks.
• Load and move materials around site.
• Carry out excavations, trenching, backfilling, reinstatement.
• Read plans and site instructions.
• Perform pre-start checks and maintain equipment to a high standard.
• Collaborate with forepersons and project teams for efficient delivery.
• Follow health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Assist with traffic management and site setup when needed.
• Contribute to a positive team culture and safe environment.
