Job summary

Higgins Wairarapa is seeking an experienced Operator to join our Maintenance Team, working on the Wairarapa road network. This hands-on role combines plant operation with a range of road maintenance and civil construction activities, contributing to safe, high-quality works and a supportive team environment.

You will operate excavators and other plant, drive trucks, and assist with maintenance, repairs, and emergency responses across the network.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators and civil construction plant.
• Full Class 2 licence with WTR endorsements; Class 5 licence preferred.
• Experience in road maintenance and civil construction environments; safety-focused.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and other plant for road maintenance tasks.
• Drive trucks and transport plant between sites.
• Carry out pavement stabilization, drainage, culvert, and shoulder repairs.
• Assist with routine maintenance and emergency response across the network.
• Complete earthworks, trenching, reinstatement, and loading activities.
• Support site plans, inspections, and safety procedures.
• Assist with temporary traffic management and site establishment as needed.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, environment, and quality.
