Job summary

Environment Southland in Invercargill, New Zealand, invites applications for the Rivers Manager role to lead integrated planning, design and delivery of river management under the Resource Management Act. You will oversee river teams, technical, design and planning functions within the Integrated Catchment Management Group, ensuring robust, compliant delivery.

You will lead and develop teams, manage budgets and risk, and provide strategic advice across policy and investment decisions.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science or related field.
• At least 10 years' relevant experience in leadership and programme/project management.
• Strong knowledge of river management, flood risk, infrastructure or environmental management.
• Ability to plan, organise, lead and report on complex programmes including budgets, risk, assurance and long-term planning.
• Ability to work with mana whenua and te ao Māori context.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated planning, design and delivery under the Resource Management Act and related legislation.
• Oversee development, design, assurance, monitoring and cost‑effective delivery of annual and long-term work programmes.
• Provide joined-up operational and technical advice to strategy, policy, and investment decisions; respond to regulatory change.
• Work with mana whenua, communities, stakeholders and other ICM managers to deliver robust, compliant and resilient outcomes.
• Provide strong people leadership to build engagement, capability and a high-performance culture.
