Job summary

Environment Southland is seeking a Rivers Manager to lead the integrated planning, design, and delivery of river management under the Resource Management Act. Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification as described in the role requirements.
• 10+ years of relevant leadership and programme or project management experience.
• Strong knowledge of river and land management, flood risk, infrastructure or environmental management.
• Ability to plan, organise, lead, deliver, control and report on complex programmes with budgets, risk, assurance and long-term planning.
• Strong strategic, analytical and critical-thinking skills with evidence interpretation and problem-solving abilities.
• Proven change leadership, stakeholder engagement and clear communication with Councillors, mana whenua and communities.
• Politically aware with the ability to handle sensitive matters.
• Ability to lead culturally competent teams and work with tangata whenua within te ao Māori and Murihiku context.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated planning, design and delivery of operational responsibilities under the Resource Management Act.
• Oversee river teams, technical, design and planning functions within Integrated Catchment Management.
• Develop, design, monitor and deliver annual and long-term work programmes including asset maintenance and emergency works.
• Provide joined-up operational and technical advice to strategy, policy and investment decisions.
• Collaborate with mana whenua, communities and other managers to deliver compliant, efficient outcomes.
