Job summary

WSP is seeking a River Engineer/Analyst for its Christchurch Water team to help communities adapt to flooding and climate risk. You will work on investigations, hydraulic modelling, and river management planning, building trusted client relationships and contributing to project delivery.

Ideally you bring a BE/BSc in Geography/Geology or related field, along with 5+ years in river engineering, with Chartered status or progress toward it, and a willingness to travel as required.

Qualifications

  • BE/BSc or equivalent qualification in Physical Geography, Geology (geomorphology focus) or Natural Resources Engineering.
  • At least five years of professional experience in river engineering, river science, hydraulic modelling, flood risk management or related field.
  • Experience interpreting river processes and applying this knowledge to investigations, assessments and design projects.
  • Chartered membership of CPEng, CIWEM or similar body preferred or working towards it.
  • Collaborative, client-focused communication; ability to facilitate meetings and present technical information.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to investigations, feasibility studies, flood and erosion assessments and hydraulic modelling.
  • Develop river management plans and prepare technical reports.
  • Lead project planning as experience grows and provide technical review for team members.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery.
