Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations – from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
As the Risk Reporting Manager, you'll play a key role in strengthening risk reporting across Health New Zealand. Reporting to the Head of Risk Management and based within Business & Governance Services, you'll lead the development, coordination and delivery of risk reporting that supports effective executive and governance decision‑making.
This is a hands‑on role, requiring you to seek out, test and bring together risk information from teams, regions and directorates. You will need to understand both the detail and the bigger organisational picture, identify gaps or inconsistencies, and follow up with stakeholders to obtain the information needed for clear and defensible reporting.
You will take a planned and disciplined approach to reporting cycles, anticipating requirements, coordinating inputs and ensuring reports are accurate, timely and decision‑focused. This will include analysing data to identify emerging risks, trends, areas of concern and opportunities, and producing high‑quality reports that meet expectations of executive management and governance audiences.
A key focus of the role will be the development and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), alongside the ongoing improvement of risk reporting processes, tools and frameworks. You'll work closely with risk owners, regional and business unit stakeholders, and members of the national Risk Management Team to ensure information is reliable, relevant and supports a no‑surprises approach.
You'll also provide guidance, training and support to risk stakeholders, helping to build capability and strengthen understanding of risk reporting requirements. The role will contribute to the implementation of Health NZ's Risk Management Policy, Framework and Process, support internal and external audit activity, and assist with initiatives designed to uplift the organisation's risk maturity.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to how risk is identified, understood and managed across a complex organisation, while working closely with stakeholders at all levels..
You'll be working in a large, complex and fast‑moving environment where priorities can shift quickly, information may be incomplete, and several high‑profile reporting requirements may need to be managed at the same time. You'll need to remain organised, calm and delivery‑focused under pressure, while maintaining accuracy and sound judgement.
We're looking for an experienced risk professional who combines close attention to detail with the ability to see the wider organisational picture. You'll be proactive and persistent in obtaining information, comfortable with constructively challenging incomplete or inconsistent inputs, and able to turn complex risk information into clear insights for senior decision‑makers.
You'll bring:
You'll be a confident communicator who can adapt your approach to different audiences, build trusted relationships and influence outcomes without relying solely on formal authority. Experience working through virtual teams and across large, matrix‑structured organisations will be valuable.
A postgraduate risk management qualification would be advantageous, as would 3–5 years' risk management experience within the health sector.
