Job summary

Desai and Company Limited is seeking a reliable Retail Assistant to join our Auckland store. You will assist with stock, POS operations, and customer service to ensure smooth day-to-day shop activity.

Key duties include stock replenishment, deliveries, and promotional displays, with a focus on accurate cash handling and compliance. This role requires a minimum 30 hours weekly and NZ work eligibility.

Qualifications

• NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification; OR at least one year of relevant work experience.
• Good attention to detail and ability to accurately check stock and deliveries.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Must have a valid status to work in New Zealand.
• Clean character check.
• Willing to undergo drug and alcohol testing
• Minimum 30 hours of work

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, efficient assistance with product, price and availability enquiries.
• Operate POS and EFTPOS systems, handle cash accurately, provide correct change and follow till balancing procedures.
• Process authorised sales, refunds, exchanges and loyalty transactions in line with store procedures.
• Replenish shelves, chillers, freezers and counter displays so products remain available and presented well.
• Receive deliveries, check quantities and condition, report discrepancies.
• Assist with supplier communications, stock ordering and promotional opportunities.
• Rotate stock using expiry-date and FIFO procedures and remove damaged items.
• Assist with stock counts, labeling, price tickets and promotional displays.
• Keep counters, shelves, floors, entrances and back-of-house spaces clean and organized.
• Follow hygiene procedures for ready-to-eat items where required.
• Follow age-restricted product procedures and report security concerns.
• Support opening and closing tasks and shift handovers.
