The successful candidate will develop and maintain reports, forecasts, and data visualisations, drawing on data from EDW and other systems to support strategic decision making across the university.

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Reporting Analyst to join the Strategy and Planning team on a 12-month fixed-term, full-time contract. The role is based primarily on the University's Pipitea campus however offers flexible working based on agreement with manager.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support completion of Government Agency returns such as the Single Data Return (SDR) and Fees Free reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
  • Support efficient and accurate forecasting and reporting of university enrolments and Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) funding, available from delivery at levels 3-7 (non-degree) and 7-10 (degree) on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework.
  • Ensure that requests for ad hoc reports are prioritised and recorded.
  • Provide timely and accurate advice and information on progress of report development.
  • Provide expertise to assist in identifying, analysing, specifying, and documenting reporting requirements.
  • Provide appropriate documentation and specifications of reporting requirements and work with systems staff to ensure these are placed on a development work programme.
  • Provide accurate, relevant, and timely analyses based on past, current and future information which assist, or may affect, the strategic positioning of the University.
  • Create, or obtain, and apply data that is fit for analyses and can inform strategic analyses.
  • Analyse data from various internal and external data sources.
  • Triangulate results by identifying appropriate data sources and analytical techniques.
  • Transform data into information that is relevant to the end user and delivered in a manner that is fit for purpose.
  • Support and/or conduct analyses of university data derived from the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and other data systems as required.
  • Develop fit for purpose data visualisations.
  • Contribute to the planning and co-ordination of projects. This will require active involvement at all stages of the project lifecycle from inception to delivery, including business case development, scoping and planning, analysis and design, testing, implementation, training, and support.
  • Specify report requirements and work with the Business Intelligence Team to design, implement and test reports in the University's reporting environments.
  • Work with the Business Intelligence Team to assist and support them as required.
  • Assist with production deployments and automation.
  • Assist in monitoring, job control and production support.
  • Manage second level support for production issues related to the BI environment.

You will be a motivated and collaborative reporting professional who enjoys turning complex data into clear, meaningful information. You will be comfortable working across technical and business areas, managing competing priorities, and building trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will bring a proactive, customer-focused approach and a strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key requirements:

  • Proven experience developing reports, analyses, and data visualisations within an enterprise reporting or business intelligence environment.
  • Strong SQL skills, ideally within Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server environments, with the ability to work confidently with complex datasets.
  • Experience using data visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BI to communicate information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated business analysis skills, including gathering requirements, documenting processes, testing solutions, and working with stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and explain complex information clearly.
  • Strong self-management skills, including the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines, adapt to changing requirements, and contribute proactively within a collaborative team.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent professional experience in reporting, analytics, information systems, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with data warehousing, dimensional modelling, process automation, or Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Familiarity with the tertiary education sector, government compliance reporting, or university business processes.
  • Experience providing application support, training users, or helping stakeholders adopt reporting and analytical solutions.
