Job summary

Crimson Education in Auckland seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to build workflow software for the college admissions process. You’ll translate user needs into robust features, working closely with customers and internal teams to improve the admissions journey.

You will collaborate across product, design, operations, and support, owning projects end to end and driving tangible improvements in user experience and automation within a fast-growing education technology startup.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on production experience.
• Experience with full-stack development, backend systems, frontend interfaces, APIs, and databases.
• Strong product sense and ability to distinguish user requests from root problems.
• Customer-oriented mindset and excellent communication with clients.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous environments and plan clear technical execution.
• Balance rapid iteration with long-term maintainability.
• Interest in education technology, college admissions, workflow automation, or service software.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain software that supports college admissions workflows.
• Work with customers and internal teams to understand pain points and business needs.
• Translate user requirements into features, improvements, and internal tools.
• Rapidly prototype, validate, and iterate based on user feedback.
• Collaborate with product, design, operations, and customer teams to set priorities.
• Own projects end to end from discovery to deployment and iteration.
• Identify opportunities to automate workflows and improve the user experience.
