Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with power systems specialization.
• 8+ years in power system engineering, grid modernization, and smart grid tech.
• Experience with SCADA, substation automation, and DMS.
• Knowledge of DNP3 and IEC 61850 protocols.
• Ability to lead projects and work remotely.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Remote Electrical Engineer to spearhead their Grid Modernization initiatives. This fully remote position allows you to contribute your expertise from anywhere, focusing on designing and implementing advanced solutions for enhancing the reliability, efficiency, and resilience of power grids. You will play a crucial role in evaluating new technologies, developing project specifications, and collaborating with cross-functional teams across different time zones. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of energy infrastructure, focusing on smart grid technologies and sustainable energy integration, supporting projects nationwide but with a core team connection to the Eastern Cape region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of smart grid technologies, including advanced metering, distribution automation, and substation modernization.
• Develop technical specifications and requirements for grid modernization projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
• Conduct power system studies and analyses to identify areas for improvement and assess the impact of new technologies.
• Collaborate remotely with utility engineers, project managers, and technology vendors to ensure successful project execution.
• Evaluate and recommend innovative solutions for grid resilience, cybersecurity, and integration of distributed energy resources (DERs).
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for project stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance in a remote setting.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in power system engineering, with a focus on grid modernization and smart grid technologies.
• Proven experience with SCADA systems, substation automation, and distribution management systems (DMS).
• Strong understanding of communication protocols used in the utility sector (e.g., DNP3, IEC 61850).
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
