Job summary

Placements24 seeks an AI Ethics & Compliance Officer to lead governance for AI initiatives in a fully remote NZ-focused team. You will craft policies, perform audits, and guide product teams on regulatory requirements throughout the AI lifecycle.

Ideal candidates have a law/ethics/policy or CS background with 4+ years in compliance or advisory roles in tech/AI, plus strong privacy knowledge and remote communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Ethics, Policy, Computer Science, or related field.
• 4+ years in compliance, risk management, legal, or ethical advisory roles, preferably tech/AI.
• Strong understanding of AI concepts, machine learning, and societal impacts.
• Knowledge of data privacy laws (POPIA, GDPR) and emerging AI regulations.
• Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for remote engagement.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain AI ethics policies, standards, and procedures.
• Conduct audits and assessments of AI systems for compliance with ethical and legal requirements.
• Monitor AI development for biases, fairness, and privacy concerns.
• Advise development teams on ethical considerations and regulatory requirements.
• Investigate and resolve ethics/compliance issues related to AI systems.
• Stay current with trends in AI ethics, regulation, and responsible AI practices.
