Job summary

Lyttelton Port Company (LPC) is seeking a motivated Marine Engineer to join the Tug Team on a permanent, full-time basis. You will maintain two tugs, oversee planned and reactive maintenance, and support safe, efficient tug operations.

You will lead maintenance of PLC-based systems, coordinate contractors, and contribute to asset management, health and safety, and continuous improvement. A MEC5 qualification and strong teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong PLC-based systems experience and ability to diagnose problems.
• MEC5 or equivalent marine engineering qualification required.
• Understanding of maintenance safety management systems including contractor management.
• Demonstrated leadership and a positive safety leadership mindset.
• Physical fitness to handle heavy items and variable conditions at sea.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned and reactive maintenance on vessels and equipment.
• Oversee start-up/shutdown, servicing, and monitoring of mechanical and control systems.
• Coordinate specialist service contractors and health and safety compliance.
• Contribute to long-term asset management planning and continuous improvement.
• Support tug operations, handle mooring lines, and assist with vessel movement.
• Promote safety, teamwork, and high-quality customer service in operations.
