Job summary

Synlait is seeking an experienced Regulatory Specialist to lead compliance across our dairy portfolios, focusing on product composition, labelling, and export requirements in New Zealand and international markets. The role supports product innovation and business growth, partnering with Sales, Technical, Packaging, Export, Quality Programme Delivery and Procurement teams.

You will bring 3+ years of dairy regulatory experience and a proactive, detail-oriented mindset to interpret evolving

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in the dairy industry with a strong understanding of NZ regulatory framework.
• Ability to interpret evolving standards across NZ and international markets.
• Provide practical, solutions-focused regulatory guidance to cross-functional teams.

• Provide day-to-day regulatory advice on product composition, labelling, and market access requirements.
• Lead regulatory support for new product development.
• Navigate export and import requirements to support entry into new global markets.
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements for customers.
• Support regulatory registration processes and coordinate activities across functions.
• Monitor and communicate changes in NZ and global regulatory frameworks.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, including MPI and industry bodies.
• Provide practical, solutions-focused regulatory guidance across a broad product portfolio.

We’re looking for an experienced Regulatory Specialist with a sound understanding of New Zealand’s regulatory framework to take a leading role in ensuring ongoing compliance with product composition, labelling, and export requirements across our dairy portfolios. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and a growth mindset.

We have two opportunities available, a permanent full-time role and a 12-month fixed term contract based at our Dunsandel site.

You will be a key partner to cross-functional teams, working with the Sales, Technical, Packaging, Export, Quality Programme Delivery and Procurement teams, supporting product innovation, and business growth.

What you’ll be doing

About you

You’re a proactive Regulatory professional with 3+ years’ experience in the dairy industry and a strong understanding of the New Zealand regulatory framework. You’re confident interpreting evolving standards and regulations across New Zealand and international markets. You build strong relationships across teams to deliver clear, practical regulatory advice in a fast-paced environment.

Skills and Experience

• Strong understanding of New Zealand domestic regulations
• Experience navigating global regulatory requirements, particularly in dairy and/or infant formula
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
• Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate into practical guidance and solutions
• Self-starter with initiative
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
