Job summary

Greater Wellington seeks a Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement (CME) Team Leader to lead and support a small team within the Environment Regulation division. Based in Wellington or Masterton, you will oversee CME and contribute to broader regulatory functions, with emphasis on innovation and process improvement.

You will foster a positive, collaborative culture, build strong stakeholder relationships including iwi and local authorities, and embed te ao Māori principles in regulatory work.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated people leadership with regulatory background.
• In-depth knowledge of RMA and related legislation.
• Ability to provide detailed technical advice on RMA, consents and CME.
• Strategic thinker focused on outcomes.
• Mentor and develop CME staff.
• Work autonomously with minimum supervision.
• Build capability at team and individual level.
• Apply Māori perspectives in environmental regulation.
• Understand and drive positive cultural change.
• 5+ years at senior advisory level or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support CME team within Environment Regulation.
• Provide regulatory advice across CME and related functions.
• Oversee and lead the compliance monitoring programme.
• Foster a collaborative, flexible team culture.
• Develop relationships with iwi, TLAs, and project partners.
• Support mātauranga Māori and te ao Māori integration.
• Contribute to Strategy, Policy and Regulation leadership.
• Drive innovation and process improvement in regulatory work.
