Registered Nurse - Surgical Assessment and Planning Unit (SAPU)

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital

Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.6 - 0.8 FTE Rostered and Rotating

About the Role

We're looking for a flexible, motivated and dynamic Registered Nurse to join our surgical nursing team at Wellington Regional Hospital. This role works across our General Surgery service, with opportunities to further develop your acute surgical and assessment skills within a supportive and fast-paced environment.

The Surgical Assessment and Planning Unit (SAPU) is a busy assessment unit with 10 beds and four treatment chairs, providing assessment and short-stay care for General Surgery patients across the Wellington and Kāpiti Coast regions. SAPU accepts referrals from both the community, including General Practitioners, and the Emergency Department.

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate strong core nursing competencies and a willingness to continue developing your clinical knowledge and skills. You will enjoy working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and be committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based patient care.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Surgical Assessment and Planning Unit (SAPU) is a fast-paced, dynamic unit within Wellington Regional Hospital providing assessment, treatment and short stay care for acute General Surgery patients across the Wellington region. We work closely with the Emergency Department, General Practitioners, inpatient surgical wards and multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely assessment and patient flow.

SAPU is entering an exciting period of growth and development, with a new purpose-built unit planned to open in early 2028 that will see the service double in size. This is a great opportunity to join a team that is evolving and focused on improving patient care and service delivery.
