Job summary

Based at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Hastings, this permanent, part-time Registered Nurse role (0.8 FTE) sits in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit. You will provide specialist recovery nursing care after anaesthesia and surgery, monitor patients, identify complications, and ensure safe, high-quality care in this critical phase.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and an Annual Practising Certificate.
• At least 2 years of clinical experience within a surgical or perioperative environment.
• PCA and Epidural accreditation, or the ability to obtain this.
• CORE Advanced and Paediatric Life Support training, or a willingness to complete these requirements.

Registered Nurse – Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), you will provide specialist nursing care to patients during the immediate post operative period following anaesthesia and surgery. You will use your clinical assessment and decision making skills to monitor patient recovery, identify and respond to complications, and ensure patients receive safe, high quality care during this critical stage of their healthcare journey.

Working within a busy perioperative service, you will collaborate closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, and allied health professionals to support positive patient outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to further develop specialist perioperative knowledge while working in a supportive team committed to clinical excellence, patient safety, and continuous improvement.

About the Team/Service/Location

Our Perioperative Service provides safe and effective care for patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures across Hawke's Bay. The PACU team is a highly skilled group of nurses who work together to deliver specialist recovery nursing care in a fast paced and supportive environment.

About you
