Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Tauranga is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Maternity Unit on a part-time 0.8 FTE roster.

Support wāhine, pēpi and whānau across antenatal, birthing and postnatal care within a midwife-led service, collaborating with midwives, Lead Maternity Carers and obstetric specialists in a busy, 24/7 environment.

Qualifications

  • Current Nursing Council of New Zealand registration and Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Recent acute care or maternity-related nursing experience.
  • Ability to work in a busy clinical environment.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with Midwives and the wider maternity team.
  • Commitment to culturally safe, respectful and whānau-centred care.
  • Flexibility to work rostered and rotating shifts across a 24/7 maternity service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care across antenatal, birthing and postnatal stages within Tauranga Hospital's Maternity Unit.
  • Collaborate with Midwives, Lead Maternity Carers, Obstetricians and Lactation Consultants in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to a busy, midwife-led service with a focus on safe, responsive care.
  • Adapt to changing care needs and support families throughout the maternity journey.

About the Role

Bring your nursing experience to Tauranga Hospital's Maternity Unit, supporting wāhine, pēpi and whānau across antenatal, birthing and postnatal care. Working within a midwife-led service, you will contribute your nursing expertise while collaborating closely with Midwives, Lead Maternity Carers, Obstetricians and Lactation Consultants. This part-time opportunity offers varied clinical experience within a busy maternity environment where teamwork, responsive care and strong relationships are part of everyday practice.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Maternity Unit at Tauranga Hospital provides care around the clock, bringing together Midwives, Nurses and specialist maternity professionals to support women and whānau throughout their maternity journey. It is a collaborative environment where different areas of expertise come together naturally, with a shared focus on safe, culturally responsive and whānau-centred care.

You are a Registered Nurse who is comfortable working in a busy clinical environment and genuinely enjoys being part of a close, multidisciplinary team. Calm and adaptable, you communicate well with wāhine and whānau and can respond confidently when care needs change. Experience in acute or maternity-related nursing will help you settle quickly into the role.
