Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora invites applications for an IRU nurse in Wellington. You will provide peri‑procedural care within the Interventional Radiology Unit, supporting patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures in a fast-paced, elective setting.

The role focuses on preparation, post‑procedural monitoring, and safe discharge, with opportunities to assist during imaging-guided procedures and sedation under a medical doctor.

Qualifications

• You must have at least one year's post registration experience in an acute setting preferably with Interventional Radiology/Cath Lab, Cardiac or Surgical nursing.
• Energetic, positive and highly motivated with ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience with peri-procedural care is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Expert Preparation: Ensure patients are clinically and psychologically ready for procedures.
• Acute Post-Procedural Care: Monitor recovery and ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Safe Transition to discharge: enable confident home discharge after observation.
• Provide nursing support during procedures and monitor sedation as needed.

About the Role

Join our dynamic multidisciplinary team in the Interventional Radiology Unit (IRU), a specialist elective day procedure ward serving those patients requiring minimally invasive procedures. Located within the Radiology Department, our unit provides expert care for patients undergoing a wide range of cutting-edge Interventional Radiology and Cardiology procedures.

As an IRU nurse, you will provide high-quality, peri-procedural care while providing compassionate patient support.

Your focus will be on:

• Expert Preparation: Ensuring patients are clinically and psychologically ready for their procedures.
• AcutePost‑Procedural Care: Closely monitoring patient recovery to ensure patient safetyand comfort.
• Safe Transition to discharge: ensuring safe discharge at the end of the periodof observation enabling patients to return homewith confidence.
• Opportunity to participate in procedural based nursing: When required the IRU nurse mayalso function in a supportive role to the proceduralist during medical imaging procedures based in radiology e.g. Biopsy and Drainage. During these procedures the IRU nurse will provide nursing care andsupport, administer/monitor conscious sedationand maintain a safe environment within the medical imaging department under the supervision of a medical doctor.

• Afternoon: 11:30‑ 20:00
