Job summary

Wellington Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Interventional Radiology Unit (IRU) on a permanent part-time 0.6 FTE rostered and rotating basis. You will join a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering peri-procedural care for a range of elective interventional radiology procedures.

The role focuses on preparing patients, monitoring them post-procedure, and safe discharge. Opportunities exist to support proceduralist during imaging procedures and conscious sedation under supervision.

Qualifications

• Must be a registered nurse with current NZ nursing registration.
• Minimum 1 year post-registration experience in an acute setting.
• Prefer experience in Interventional Radiology/Cath Lab or cardiac/surgical nursing.
• Energetic, positive, and able to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide peri-procedural care and patient support in IRU.
• Prepare patients clinically and psychologically for procedures.
• Monitor recovery and ensure safe discharge from observation.
• May assist proceduralist during imaging procedures and monitor sedation.

About the Role

Join our dynamic multidisciplinary team in the Interventional Radiology Unit (IRU), a specialist elective day procedure ward serving those patients requiring minimally invasive procedures. Located within the Radiology Department, our unit provides expert care for patients undergoing a wide range of cutting-edge Interventional Radiology and Cardiology procedures.

As an IRU nurse, you will provide high-quality, peri-procedural care while providing compassionate patient support.

Your focus will be on:

• Expert Preparation: Ensuring patients are clinically and psychologically ready for their procedures.
• Acute Post-Procedural Care: Closely monitoring patient recovery to ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Safe Transition to discharge: ensuring safe discharge at the end of the period of observation enabling patients to return home with confidence.

Opportunity to participate in procedural based nursing: When required the IRU nurse may also function in a supportive role to the proceduralist during medical imaging procedures based in radiology e.g. Biopsy and Drainage. During these procedures the IRU nurse will provide nursing care and support, administer/monitor conscious sedation and maintain a safe environment within the medical imaging department under the supervision of a medical doctor.

Morning: 07:30 - 16:00

Afternoon: 11:30 - 20:00

About you

You must have at least one years' post registration experience in an acute setting preferably with some experience in Interventional Radiology/Cath Lab, Cardiac or Surgical nursing. We are looking for someone who is energetic, positive and highly motivated, who has the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
