Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora's Hawke's Bay Intensive Care Unit is seeking Registered Nurses to provide lifesaving care in a dynamic ICU. You will perform comprehensive assessments, plan and evaluate nursing care, and apply advanced clinical judgment to rapidly changing patient conditions.

You will work closely with intensivists and wider hospital teams, contribute to safe, coordinated, culturally responsive care for patients and whānau, maintain documentation, support VRM, and participate

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current NZ Nursing Council registration and Annual Practising Certificate.
  • At least 4 years' experience in a Critical Care Unit.
  • At least 5 years' acute nursing experience.
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
  • Excellent time-management and high-pressure performance.
  • Commitment to culturally safe practice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Experience caring for critically ill paediatric patients.
  • Experience with CRRT or ICP monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care for critically ill patients in ICU.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments, plan and evaluate care, and respond to changing conditions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support VRM and quality improvements within ICU.
  • Mentor and support new staff and students within the ICU team.

Job description

  • 2 x Permanent, Part-Time positions 72 hours per fortnight (0.9 FTE)
  • Develop advanced critical care skills within a supportive, highly skilled multidisciplinary team, and provide lifesaving nursing care in a dynamic ICU environment.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, you will provide highquality, evidencebased care to critically unwell patients requiring complex and intensive monitoring and interventions. Youll complete comprehensive assessments, plan and evaluate nursing care, and use advanced clinical judgment to respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.

Working closely with intensivists, allied health, and wider hospital teams, you will contribute to safe, coordinated, and culturally responsive care for patients and their whānau. Your role includes maintaining accurate documentation, supporting new staff and students, actively participating in Variance Response Management (VRM), and contributing to quality improvements within the ICU.

Our Intensive Care Unit at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital provides specialist care to adults and paediatric patients requiring intensive monitoring, organ support and advanced interventions. Youll join a dedicated, collaborative ICU team committed to delivering safe, innovative and compassionate care in a fastpaced environment.

About you

You are a clinically confident and adaptable nurse with a passion for critical care. You will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
  • A minimum of 4 years experience in a Critical Care Unit.
  • At least 5 years acute nursing experience.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Excellent timemanagement and the ability to work effectively in highpressure situations.
  • Commitment to culturally safe practice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Experience caring for critically ill paediatric patients.
