Heritage New Zealand invites applications for a Kaituitui a Rohe Regional Coordinator to represent the Tohu Whenua programme on the West Coast. Tohu Whenua: Landmarks that tell our stories is a tourism and regional economic development programme that connects New Zealanders and international visitors with Aotearoa New Zealand’s cultural heritage by promoting places of historical significance that offer high-quality visitor experiences. It is a joint national initiative of the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga (HNZPT) and is administered by HNZPT.

The programme currently operates in four regions (Te Tai Tokerau Northland, Waitaha Canterbury, Te Tai Poutini West Coast and Otago) and is rapidly expanding into other regions across Aotearoa New Zealand, working towards being a nationwide programme.

About the Role

Tohu Whenua is seeking a Kaituitui a Rohe Regional Coordinator to represent the programme on the ground on the West Coast, facilitating growth, maintaining regional relationships and lifting the programme’s profile. The role reports to Operations and Partnerships Manager and will work closely with multi-agency regional teams.

About You

You will be organised, proactive, and enjoy building relationships. You will have experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including iwi and Māori, and bring an understanding of tikanga and Te Ao Māori.

Knowledge of the West Coast region, its heritage stories, and tourism opportunities will be an advantage, as will existing local networks and relationships.
