Job description

Network Development Manager, Tohu Whenua - Ref 177.0

Full time position, fixed term until 30 June 2028

Want to play a pivotal role in shaping a nationwide network of the best heritage tourism experiences Aotearoa New Zealand has to offer? If you are driven by purpose, partnership and the power of place, this role will feel like home.

Tohu Whenua: Landmarks that tell our stories is a national tourism programme that connects New Zealanders and international visitors with Aotearoa New Zealand's heritage by promoting places of historical significance. It is a joint initiative of the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga (HNZPT), and is administered by HNZPT.

The programme currently operates in four regions and is rapidly expanding nationwide. We are seeking an experienced project or programme manager to lead multiple interconnected and overlapping rollout projects, including managing three to four fixed term project managers to deliver new regional itineraries and strengthen the programme’s national presence.

The ideal candidate is highly organised, agile and thrives in relationship-rich environments, priding themselves on completing projects within budget and on time. They are a strong communicator and comfortable working with a range of people.

If you are looking for impactful work at the intersection of heritage, tourism and community engagement, we would love to hear from you.

Applications close at 5pm on Sunday 11 October, 2026.
