Job summary

Earth Sciences New Zealand is seeking an early- to mid-career scientist to enhance hydrometeorological forecasting and real-time flood guidance for emergency response across New Zealand. The role interfaces with regional councils and national agencies, translating rainfall into actionable advice and moving models from research to operations.

• Postgraduate degree in hydrology, forecasting or related field.
• Experience in operational hydrology or real-time forecasting.
• Ability to translate forecasts into actionable guidance.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to operational hydrological forecasting duties, including duty rosters and on-call response.
• Translate rainfall forecasts into hydrological impact assessments for stakeholders.
• Implement and test forecasting systems at basin/national scales with ensemble methods.
