Job summary

KiwiRail is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Technician to join the Auckland-based Network Services team. In this hands-on role, you will maintain, install, test and repair radio and RF systems, fibre and copper networks, transmission equipment, and train control technologies to keep our rail network safe and connected.

You will work Monday to Friday with an 80-hour fortnight, participate in on-call duties, and contribute to safety and documentation, with a starting rate of $45.20 per

Qualifications

• NCT Level 4 Certification (or equivalent) and EAS Registration.
• A current, clean Class 1 Driver Licence and First Aid Certificate.
• Proven RF technology and radio communication systems experience.
• Strong fault‑finding, diagnostic, maintenance, and troubleshooting skills in telecoms.
• Willingness to work outdoors, at heights, and after‑hours callouts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain telecommunications equipment and supporting infrastructure.
• Diagnose and resolve faults across telecom and network systems.
• Support installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
• Complete maintenance records and technical documentation.
• Participate in emergency callouts and after‑hours support.
• Ensure work meets KiwiRail engineering, operational, and safety standards.
• Promote Health & Safety culture through proactive risk management.
