Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Consultant radiation oncologist to join our Radiation Oncology Service on a fixed-term contract to cover leave across Wellington regional facilities. The role is full-time from now through December 2026, with a supportive team of 10 oncologists, multidisciplinary collaboration, and access to HDR brachytherapy and stereotactic services.

Qualifications

• Voationally registered in Radiation Oncology with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
• FRANZCR or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ.
• Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team and provide high standards of medical care.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant radiation oncology services across multiple sites.

About the service

We are looking for a Consultant radiation oncologist with general radiation oncology experience to join our team on a fixed term contract to cover leave. The team currently consists of 10 radiation oncologists who are supportive, and dedicated to the provision of an efficient, high quality, patient focused treatment service. We are a very cohesive team, and work collegially with our radiation therapy and medical physics colleagues, which creates a rewarding work environment. We also work closely with our oncology and surgical colleagues with multidisciplinary clinics across several sites. We offer HDR brachytherapy for gynaecological, prostate and skin cancers, and a radioactive iodine service for thyroid cancer. We offer stereotactic treatment to several sites. Wellington is an accredited training facility for radiation oncology registrars, radiation therapists and medical physicists. There is a research unit in the department to support a wide-range of local, national and international studies. We have close links with the University of Otago Medical School and Department of Radiation Therapy, should you wish to get involved.
