Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Wellington invites applications for a Consultant Radiation Oncologist on a fixed-term, full-time basis to cover leave from now to December 2026. You will join a cohesive team across Wellington’s radiation oncology services, work with MCNZ-registered colleagues, and contribute to HDR brachytherapy and other services.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Provide consistent, safe, and evidence-based radiation oncology treatment.
  • Contribute to the growth and delivery of HDR brachytherapy and related services.
  • Support teaching and training within Wellington sites and liaison with referring clinicians.

About the service

We are looking for a Consultant radiation oncologist with general radiation oncology experience to join our team on a fixed term contract to cover leave.

The team currently consists of 10 radiation oncologists who are supportive, and dedicated to the provision of an efficient, high quality, patient focused treatment service. We are a very cohesive team, and work collegially with our radiation therapy and medical physics colleagues, which creates a rewarding work environment. We also work closely with our oncology and surgical colleagues with multidisciplinary clinics across several sites. We offer HDR brachytherapy for gynaecological, prostate and skin cancers, and a radioactive iodine service for thyroid cancer. We offer stereotactic treatment to several sites.

Wellington is an accredited training facility for radiation oncology registrars, radiation therapists and medical physicists. There is a research unit in the department to support a wide-range of local, national and international studies. We have close links with the University of Otago Medical School and Department of Radiation Therapy, should you wish to get involved.

About you
You will:
  • be vocationally registered in Radiation Oncology with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • hold FRANZCR or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
  • be able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • have relevant experience and training.
