Job summary

ChillWell in Christchurch seeks an experienced refrigeration technician to fault-find, diagnose and resolve issues across commercial systems. The role covers service, repair, installation and commissioning with a focus on clear, accurate records and customer communication.

You will join a small, hands-on team with autonomy to manage your jobs, including after-hours work, and contribute to growth as the business expands in Canterbury.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified in refrigeration and air conditioning with NZQA Level 4 or recognised equivalent.
• Current NZ driver license and right to work in New Zealand.
• Ability to diagnose faults and complete jobs independently.

Qualified commercial refrigeration engineer who can fault-find properly and run jobs independently?

ChillWell is growing and strengthening its Christchurch technical team. We’re looking for an experienced refrigeration technician / HVAC-R service technician who takes pride in diagnosing faults properly, getting the job sorted and keeping the customer informed.

This is a permanent, full-time role across Christchurch and wider Canterbury. It is for a genuinely qualified engineer with strong commercial refrigeration experience—not a trainee position.

ABOUT CHILLWELL

ChillWell is a small, hands-on Christchurch refrigeration company. We install, service and repair commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning systems throughout Canterbury, and we’re looking to grow the team with reliable people who care about their work.

THE WORK

You’ll get plenty of variety, including:

• Commercial refrigeration fault-finding, servicing and repairs
• Coolrooms, walk-in chillers and freezers
• Refrigerated cabinets and display equipment
• Produce chillers, flower chillers, and water and glycol chiller systems
• Preventive maintenance and breakdown work
• Refrigeration installations and commissioning
• Some commercial heat-pump and air-conditioning work
• Clear, accurate job notes and service records
• Straightforward communication with customers
• After-hours work

You’ll be trusted to organise and complete your work without someone constantly looking over your shoulder. We value methodical diagnosis, tidy workmanship and clear records.

WHAT WE NEED

This is not a trainee or handyman role. You must have:

• Trade-qualified in refrigeration and air conditioning with an NZQA Level 4 trade qualification, or recognised equivalent
• A current EWRB practising licence as an Electrical Service Technician (EST—formerly EST-B, following EST-A and EST-B training), or a higher relevant electrical registration
• A full New Zealand driver licence
• The legal right to work in New Zealand
• The ability to diagnose faults and complete jobs independently
• A reliable, organised and professional approach with customers
• Positive, practical and eager to help us grow

WHAT’S ON OFFER

• $45–$55 per hour, depending on capability and commercial refrigeration experience
• An exceptional senior refrigeration engineer may be considered above this range
