Matamata-Piako District Council is seeking a practical Roading Contracts Engineer to help keep our roading network safe, reliable and moving. You will manage maintenance and renewal contracts from planning through to completion, prepare documents, work with contractors and monitor budgets.

You’ll also update asset information, assist roading customers, process overweight vehicle permits and provide after-hours support during emergencies. Driving is required in NZ.

Formación

• A relevant civil engineering qualification—or be working towards one.
• At least two years’ experience in roading, civil infrastructure, contract administration or project delivery.
• Confidence managing contracts, contractors, budgets and variations.
• The ability to understand engineering drawings, specifications and standards.
• A full New Zealand driver licence.
• Knowledge of road maintenance and renewals, NZS 3910:2025 and NZS 3917:2025 would be valuable.

We’re looking for a practical and people-focused Roading Contracts Engineer to help keep the Matamata-Piako roading network safe, reliable and moving.

You’ll manage maintenance and renewal contracts from planning through to completion. This includes preparing contract documents, working with contractors, monitoring budgets and quality, updating asset information, and helping customers with roading enquiries. You’ll also process overweight vehicle permits and provide backup support during urgent after-hours situations and emergencies.

What you’ll bring:

• A relevant civil engineering qualification—or be working towards one
• At least two years’ experience in roading, civil infrastructure, contract administration or project delivery
• Confidence managing contracts, contractors, budgets and variations
• The ability to understand engineering drawings, specifications and standards
• Sound judgement and strong attention to detail
• A full New Zealand driver licence

Knowledge of road maintenance and renewals, NZS 3910:2025 and NZS 3917:2025, asset-management systems and overweight permits would be valuable.
