Job description

Public Transport Growth Manager, Auckland Transport

Auckland's public transport network is having its moment. The City Rail Link has transformed how the city moves, the network carries more than 90 million boardings a year, and we are looking for a Public Transport Growth Manager to turn that momentum into sustained, commercially sound growth.

This is one of the most influential growth roles in New Zealand transport. Reporting to the Executive General Manager Finance & Commercial, you will own AT's patronage growth strategy end to end. Includes a assessed pipeline of work spanning fares and concessions, employer and institutional partnerships, events, products and targeted customer acquisition campaigns. You will decide where the strongest opportunities lie, build the investment case and lead delivery through a capable team, with marketing, data, commercial, technology and operations teams mobilised behind you and long-term external partnerships at the heart of the work. The results are visible to the whole city. More Aucklanders on buses, trains and ferries, and a stronger farebox underpinning the network's future.

The mandate is yours to shape. You will inherit a strong, endorsed growth framework and the freedom to evolve it into the strategy that defines how Auckland grows public transport use for years to come.

In this role you will:
  • Own and evolve AT's patronage growth strategy, translating organisational priorities into a single, assessed pipeline of initiatives across network growth, customer acquisition, retention, fares, concessions, partnerships, events and targeted marketing.
  • Turn patronage targets into a credible, measurable programme by quantifying the patronage gap, sequencing initiatives, assessing realisation risk and holding contingencies for when performance is off track.
  • Secure executive, senior leadership and governance endorsement for the programme, including priorities, investment requirements and the key trade-offs between patronage, revenue, customer outcomes and operational readiness.
  • Build and scale the commercial products and partnerships that grow patronage and revenue, from employer travel schemes and tertiary products to major event, conference and visitor offers, leading engagement from first conversation through negotiation to launch and account management.
  • Use customer insight, patronage data, trial results and international benchmarking to double down on what works, redesign what does not, and keep resources flowing to the strongest opportunities.
