Job summary

Horizon Services, part of Horizon Energy Group, is seeking a Protection Technician to join the technical team in Whakatāne or Palmerston North. You’ll handle maintenance, testing, and installation of protection systems, SCADA, and communications networks to keep the distribution network safe and reliable.

The role suits electricians with 2–5 years’ experience, LV/HV protection design, and a strong safety mindset.

Qualifications

• NZ Registered Electrician with 2–5 years’ experience in protection systems, SCADA, PLCs, and communications networks.
• Solid knowledge of LV and HV network systems, protection design, and testing.
• Strong understanding of industry safety standards and ability to work independently.
• Manual NZ driver’s licence and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, test, and install protection systems, SCADA, and communications networks.
• Perform fault diagnosis, system testing, and relay installation on projects.
• Provide field support to engineering and operations teams and participate in the 24/7 on-call roster.
