Job summary

Horizon Services is seeking a Protection Technician to join the technical team in Whakatāne or Palmerston North. The role focuses on maintenance, testing, and installation of protection systems, SCADA, and communications networks to keep the electricity distribution network safe and reliable.

Qualifications

• NZ Registered Electrician with 2–5 years’ experience in protection systems, SCADA, PLCs, and comms networks.
• Solid knowledge of LV and HV network systems, protection design, and testing.
• Strong understanding of industry safety standards and ability to work independently.
• NZ driver’s licence and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance, testing, and installation of protection systems, SCADA, and comms networks.
• Fault diagnosis, system testing, relay installation, and field support across projects.
• Provide technical support to engineering and operations teams.
• Contribute to system improvements and participate in the 24/7 on-call roster.
