Job description

Transpower owns and operates New Zealand’s National Grid, the high-voltage transmission network connecting areas of generation with towns and cities across the motu. Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand – a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.

About The Team

Grid Delivery oversees all work on the national grid, including capital project and maintenance activities delivered with our service provider organisations. We manage approximately $700M in capital and $150M in maintenance expenditure annually, with significant growth forecast.

Our national Project Support team plays a critical role in enabling this work, providing project support and performance services to over 70 Project Managers and Programme Managers, delivering grid capital investigation and build projects.

About The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive, experienced Project/Programme Coordinator with excellent communication skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Our ideal candidate enjoys working closely with others, has strong financial acumen and attention to detail, and thinks several steps ahead to anticipate upcoming priorities and challenges.

Based in Wellington, you’ll provide end‑to‑end support to Grid Delivery Project Managers. Working collaboratively, you’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders, coordinate project activities, manage information accurately, and help ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

If you’re looking for interesting, challenging and meaningful work, this role offers both.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Acting as the key point of contact for project support and information, coordinating activities and administration across the project lifecycle
  • Coordinating and supporting financial management, including forecasting, invoicing, accruals and variance reporting, while working closely with Project Managers and our finance team
  • Monitoring and analysing reports and performance metrics to support effective project management
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and identifying opportunities for greater efficiency
About You

You’re a team player who is curious, enjoys learning, loves supporting others, and is comfortable switching between different priorities as the day requires. You bring a positive, practical mindset and good attention to detail.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
  • Experience in, or a strong interest in, project or programme coordination
  • Sound financial acumen and familiarity with financial management systems
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues and exceptions
  • Advanced capability across Microsoft Office and Office 365, including Excel (experience with Microsoft Project is an advantage)
  • Strong organisational, coordination and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and keep projects running smoothly
While not essential, please let us know if you have:
  • Experience documenting business processes, procedures or training materials
  • A project management qualification (CAPM, PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent)
  • Interest in AI‑enabled tools (such as Microsoft Copilot) and a desire to build your capability in this area to support continuous improvement
What sets this role apart?

You’ll build practical project coordination experience on infrastructure projects that really matter. The team is supportive and generous with their time and knowledge, and you’ll be backed with the training, encouragement and tools you'll need to grow in the direction that’s right for you.
