Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is offering a six-month, part-time Programme Producer, Pacific, to join our Public Programmes team in central Auckland. The role focuses on strengthening connections with Pacific communities and informing public programming for our upcoming exhibition.

Working with the Senior Manager Public Programmes and Curator Pacific Art, you will map audiences, engage groups and deliver events across festival days, activations, talks and experiences.

Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is a cultural leader in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our purpose is to be a place for art and a catalyst for ideas that shape the future. The Gallery is a centre for excellence in exhibition-making, research, publishing, education, conservation, public programming and community engagement.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Programme Producer, Pacific to join our Public Programmes team in a six-month, part-time position supported by Creative New Zealand.

In this role, you’ll help strengthen the Gallery’s relevance to and connections with Pacific communities and ensure their perspectives and interests help inform our public programming. A key focus will be developing an audience map, identifying and connecting with key Pacific communities, groups and organisations to build relationships and better understand how Pacific peoples want to engage with the Gallery.

You’ll also bring your high levels of Pacific cultural competency and creative thinking to programmes and events already in development – from festival days and evening activations to music, talks and other experiences. Alongside this, with the support of your manager, you’ll develop and deliver a several events and contribute to the public programming being developed for a future exhibition of Pacific Art.

Working closely with the Senior Manager Public Programmes, Curator Pacific Art and wider Gallery team, this is an opportunity to combine community engagement, creativity and event delivery to create meaningful experiences for Pacific peoples.

You’ll have strong knowledge and appreciation of Pacific art, culture and communities, and importantly, the ability to build genuine connections and relationships with Pacific audiences.

You may bring experience from arts and culture, community engagement, events, festivals or the wider creative sector. To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

• Strong connections with and understanding of Pacific communities
• Experience developing or delivering public programmes, events or activations
• Experience engaging with Pacific peoples including community groups, artists and creatives
• Strong relationship-building and excellent communication skills
• Good organisational and project management skills, including confidence managing timelines, budgets and event logistics

It is helpful to understand the purpose and operation of public art galleries but not entirely necessary. A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant experience is desirable.

This is a six-month fixed-term opportunity, working 24 hours per week. Based at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, in central Auckland, the role offers flexibility across the working week, with Tuesday as a required onsite day, but with some flexibility on the other two onsite days. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required for events.

Salary range $84,000 and $89,600 per annum pro-rated, depending on skillset and experience
