Job summary

RobLawMax Recruitment seeks an experienced Production Engineer for an underground mining operation in New Zealand. The role focuses on drill & blast design, narrow-vein stoping, and production planning to maximise ore recovery while controlling dilution and overbreak.

You will work closely with underground operations, geology and survey teams, delivering practical engineering solutions and continuous improvement in drilling efficiency and stoping methods.

Qualifications

• Mining Engineering degree required.
• Minimum 2+ years underground mining experience.
• Strong underground drill & blast design experience.
• Experience with narrow-vein underground mining.
• Practical understanding of narrow-vein stoping methods.
• Experience with underground production planning and mine design.
• Strong dilution and overbreak control knowledge.
• Experience with Deswik or similar software.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Production Engineer to join a high-grade underground gold and antimony operation in Central Victoria.

This is a hands‑on operational engineering position requiring strong underground drill & blast capability and practical narrow‑vein mining experience.

Working closely with underground operations, geology and survey, you will be responsible for delivering practical engineering solutions that maximise ore recovery while maintaining tight control over dilution and overbreak.

Key Responsibilities

• Underground production drill & blast design
• Design and optimisation of narrow-vein stoping
• Short-term production planning and scheduling
• Stope and development design
• Monitor blast performance, dilution, recovery and overbreak
• Conduct regular underground inspections of production areas
• Track production and development against forecast
• Work closely with Shift Supervisors on daily production planning
• Provide practical engineering support to underground operations
• Assist with geotechnical inspections and rehabilitation planning
• Continuously improve drill & blast performance and mining efficiency

About You Ideally You Will Have

• Degree qualification in Mining Engineering
• Minimum 2+ years' underground mining experience
• Strong underground drill & blast design experience
• Experience within narrow‑vein underground mining
• Practical understanding of narrow‑vein stoping methods
• Experience with underground production planning and mine design
• Strong understanding of dilution and overbreak control
• Experience with Deswik or similar mine design software
• Strong operational and problem-solving capability

Experience in narrow‑vein gold or other high‑grade metalliferous operations will be particularly attractive.

This is a residential operation offering an 8/6 roster, providing the opportunity to work in underground mining while being home at the end of each shift.
