Location: Central Auckland, NZ, 1010

Description:

  • Lead digital experiences across iconic brands like Auckland Zoo
  • Shape major website improvements and rebuilds
  • Work alongside designers, developers and business teams

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited is Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s cultural, events and destination agency, caring for many of the region’s most iconic venues, places and taonga. Our Digital team builds, manages and continually improves the websites and digital experiences supporting leading brands such as Auckland Zoo, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Auckland Live, Auckland Stadiums, New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa and Auckland Conventions.

As Product Owner – Web & Digital Experience, you’ll be the voice of our users and the digital product owner for this important portfolio. You’ll set the product direction, turn user and organisational needs into a clear strategy and roadmap, and bring stakeholders and delivery teams together around a shared vision. With several significant website projects ahead, this is an opportunity to shape the next generation of Auckland’s digital experiences while preparing the portfolio for changing customer expectations, emerging technologies and an AI-enabled future.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and maintain a clear product strategy and prioritised roadmap, turning user insights, business goals and emerging trends into valuable digital initiatives.
  • Lead discovery, identify the problems and opportunities to address, and clearly articulate the expected user and organisational value, benefits and measures of success.
  • Guide major website redevelopments and ongoing improvements from discovery through delivery, bringing designers, developers, content specialists, business analysts, technology teams and external partners together around a clear product vision. Champion accessible, customer-centred digital experiences that improve navigation, discoverability, engagement, conversion, self-service and overall website performance.
  • Explore and implement practical AI-enabled opportunities, including intelligent search and chatbot experiences, while considering how AI will reshape customer expectations and access to information.
  • Own priorities across the roadmap and backlog, make informed scope and trade-off decisions, and provide delivery teams with the clarity needed to deliver value.
  • Lead productive stakeholder, vendor and partner relationships, including contract and account management, service performance reviews and negotiations.
  • Monitor product performance, benefits, risks, dependencies, technical debt and lifecycle needs to ensure the portfolio remains effective, resilient and fit for the future.

You’ll be an experienced digital product professional who understands what it takes to build, manage and continually improve high-quality public-facing digital channels. You’ll bring strong product strategy, discovery, roadmapping, prioritisation and backlog-management capability, alongside practical experience working with stakeholders, designers and developers to deliver features and functionality. Your knowledge will span customer-centred design, UX, accessibility, content management systems, information architecture, SEO, analytics, experimentation and the software development lifecycle. You’ll also understand emerging AI trends and be able to identify realistic opportunities to improve navigation, search, discoverability and customer experience. A confident communicator and trusted advisor, you’ll use evidence to make sound trade-off decisions, translate technical concepts into clear business language and bring diverse stakeholders together around a shared product vision.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least five years’ experience developing, delivering and improving digital or web products, services or projects, ideally including three or more years as a Product Owner or Product Manager.
  • Proven experience owning or optimising public-facing digital experiences or web portfolios within a complex organisation, including working directly with designers, developers, senior stakeholders and external delivery partners.
  • Practical experience across product strategy, discovery, roadmaps, benefits assessment, agile delivery, backlog management, AI, MVPs or MMPs, acceptance criteria, UX, accessibility, SEO, analytics and system integration.
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in communication, business, marketing, design, technology or a related discipline is highly desirable, together with an understanding of emerging AI trends and their impact on websites, customer journeys and digital discoverability.
