Job summary

Trade Me is seeking a Design System Designer to shape components, tokens and patterns used by squads across web and mobile. This is a part-time, 3 days per week, 6 month contract based in our Auckland office.

You will design and maintain semantic design tokens, collaborate with engineers to ensure accessibility and consistency, and contribute to system governance while documenting decisions for both humans and machines.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' product design experience with time spent on a design system, component library or pattern library.
• Strong working knowledge of semantic design tokens and how they map to code.
• Deep Figma expertise, including component/variant architecture and dev-mode/code-connect workflows.
• A systems-thinking mindset with high attention to detail for edge cases, states and accessibility standards (WCAG).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to explain decisions clearly and partner with front-end engineers.
