Job summary

Trade Me in Auckland seeks a Senior Technical Product Owner to maximise squad impact by owning the product and platform roadmap, translating goals into platform and product initiatives. You’ll balance strategic and operational work in an AI-enabled environment and drive measurable outcomes.

You’ll collaborate with product, design, and engineering to deliver value, prioritise capabilities, and keep stakeholders aligned while maintaining platform health and governance.

As a Senior Technical Product Owner, you will maximise squad impact by owning the product and platform roadmap and translating strategic goals and high-value business and customer outcomes into platform and product initiatives.

We have an opportunity in Auckland where you will use platform-as-product practices to build the right platform capabilities to enable product outcomes. You work with technical leaders to ensure our platforms are maintained and you strike a right balance between strategic, tactical and operational initiatives. You'll operate in an environment powered by AI acceleration where every Trade Me employee uses AI daily to remove toil, reduce delivery friction and reinvent how we build platforms.

Here is what you can expect from this role:

• Work closely with the product and design team to understand customer and business needs and translate them into product and platform roadmaps
• Identify future product needs and prioritise platform capabilities to enable them
• Use metrics and data to identify areas of friction or drift in user experience
• Utilise observability data, prioritise and execute plannable maintenance initiatives to keep platforms healthy
• Build, maintain and own a value-driven, flexible product roadmap to achieve the product and platform vision and strategy, managing complex dependencies and competing priorities
• Work very closely with squad leadership to understand our strategic objectives, define measures of success and desired outcomes and the plans to get us there
• Align expectations by keeping the sponsors, wider stakeholder and customer groups informed and engaged with the changes happening to your platforms to ensure good governance and support

What you will bring to our team:

• 5+ years experience leading Product Engineering teams to deliver great outcomes, good understanding of product, design and engineering practices with knowledge of web & mobile tech
• Experience working in an agile environment and track record of successfully developing flexible value driven product roadmaps
• Experience using outcome based metrics to measure change impact
• Software development or testing background with knowledge of data platforms, search platforms, web/mobile tech
• A great team player, collaborator and communicator who can explain ideas simply, listen carefully and proactively improve team comms
• Exceptional proficiency in risk management and robust decision-making
• Confident using collaborative tools to clarify work scope, sizing, trade offs, dependencies and other planning considerations
