Job summary

KiwiRail is seeking a Procurement Specialist to provide leadership and support across procurement functions, ideally based in Wellington. The role leads sourcing, category strategy development, supplier management, and ensures compliance with government rules to deliver value for money.

You’ll work closely with the Procurement Category Manager to drive category plans, manage risk, and embed sustainable procurement practices while supporting the Interislander team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years procurement experience in a medium to large org.
• Skilled in category management and contemporary procurement practices.
• Able to analyse complex data, develop models, and present insights clearly.
• Strong experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and vendor management.
• Understanding of procurement risk, sustainability, and government procurement rules.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end sourcing activities, including market engagement, evaluation, negotiation and contract finalisation.
• Develop and implement category strategies to support savings targets.
• Provide strategic procurement advice to business units focusing on total cost of ownership and risk.
• Manage supplier relationships to drive performance, value, and alignment with goals.
• Ensure compliance with Government Procurement Rules and KiwiRail policies.
• Support development and implementation of procurement strategies and continuous improvement.
