Job summary
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is seeking a Principal Safety Engineer to lead regional road safety programmes and act as a technical authority on complex interventions across New Zealand’s state highway network. Based in Wellington or Top of the South Island, this senior role combines deep technical expertise with programme leadership.
You will translate evidence into practical safety solutions, balance safety with network performance and value for money, and mentor engineers across the Safety
Qualifications
- Extensive road safety engineering experience.
- Expertise in safety treatments and crash analysis.
- Knowledge of CAS, RAMM and KiwiRAP.
- Experience delivering integrated, value-for-money transport solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate regional safety programmes.
- Act as a technical authority on complex interventions.
- Influence planning, investment, and delivery of the state highway network.
- Provide safety engineering advice and assurance.
- Translate evidence into prioritised actions for decision-makers.
- Mentor and coach engineers across the Safety Practice.
