Job summary

Thompson Precast in Timaru is seeking a Precast Concrete Technician to join our team. You will work alongside skilled tradespeople to manufacture high-quality precast products used in commercial, industrial, agricultural and infrastructure projects across Otago and Canterbury.

The role combines carpentry, construction, concrete work and machinery operation, offering variety and tangible results daily. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential, with training provided for

Qualifications

  • Experience in carpentry, construction, concrete work, or similar hands-on trades is desirable.
  • Experience using hand and power tools is preferred.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings.
  • Prepare the casting beds by cleaning and polishing steel surfaces.
  • Measure, cut and construct formwork and moulds.
  • Undertake quality checks and maintain production records.
  • Place, vibrate, finish and cure concrete, including architectural finishes.
  • Tie reinforcing steel cages and prepare reinforcing components.
  • Operate gantry cranes and material handlers (training provided).
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials and finished products.

Thompson Precast is seeking a Precast Concrete Technician to join our Timaru team.

Working alongside experienced tradespeople, you will help manufacture high-quality precast concrete products used in commercial, industrial, agricultural and infrastructure projects throughout Otago and Canterbury. This role offers the unique satisfaction of seeing tangible results from your efforts every day. Combining carpentry, construction, concrete work and machinery operation, no two days are the same making this a varied and rewarding role.

Precast concrete manufacturing involves a wide range of tasks, from building formwork and setting up moulds to placing concrete and operating machinery. The role requires practical skills, attention to detail, and teamwork to produce quality products for a diverse range of projects.

Key responsibilities
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings

About you

The role is physically demanding and involves lifting, climbing, reaching and working on your feet and kneeling throughout the day

Experience in carpentry, construction, concrete work, engineering manufacturing, or a similar hands-on trade is highly desirable

Experience using hand and power tools is preferred

A positive attitude and willingness to learn

A current New Zealand driver's licence is required
