Job summary

JobSpace in Auckland is seeking an experienced precast concrete worker to prepare formwork, place and finish concrete, and install cast-in fixtures for commercial infrastructure projects.

This role requires at least 2 years of concreting experience or a trade qualification, willingness to travel across Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty, and a commitment to safety.

Applicants must be physically fit, pass a pre-employment drug test, provide a CV and hold a valid driver licence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant concreting or precast concrete experience or a trade qualification.
• Trade qualification in concreting construction or precast concrete manufacturing.
• Must have a driver licence and be physically fit.

• Travel between Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty as required.

Responsibilities

• Read and follow production drawings, specs, job instructions and engineer requirements.
• Construct, prepare, assemble and strip precast concrete formwork and moulds.
• Place, pour, spread, compact and level concrete using appropriate tools.
• Finish concrete surfaces to required appearance and durability.
• Install fixtures and cast-in components, including anchor bolts and plates.
• Prepare, mix, place and finish concrete on vertical surfaces and formed areas.
• Protect and cure concrete using approved methods and materials.
• Operate workshop and site tools and machinery safely.
• Collaborate with engineers and supervisors on precast product requirements.

To manufacture high-quality precast concrete components safely, accurately and efficiently for commercial infrastructure projects. The role prepares formwork, places and finishes concrete, installs cast-in fixtures, and works under the direction of the Production Manager and engineers to meet specified structural, durability and quality requirements.

• Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.

Applicants must have the following as per employer’s requirement:

• Minimum 2 years of relevant concreting or precast concrete experience; and or
• Relevant trade qualification in concreting construction or precast concrete manufacturing
• This role requires travel between Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty

Other Requirements:

• Pre cast concrete form work
• Concrete pouring, spreading and levelling using screeds and templates
• Smoothing, shaping and sealing concrete for Commercial Infrastructure
• Operating tools and machines within the workshop and on site to float, trowel and polish concrete surfaces

• Finish vertical surfaces by preparing, mixing and constructing from concrete
• Covering concrete with plastic sheeting and sand to cure it

• Concreting: capable of placing, compacting, levelling, shaping, finishing and curing concrete to specification.
• Formwork: able to prepare and check moulds and formwork before pouring and assist with safe stripping after curing.
• Accuracy: works carefully to drawings, templates, dimensions, levels and finish requirements.
• Tool operation: safely and competently uses relevant hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery.
• Quality control: identifies defects or variations and reports them before they affect the finished product.

Main Tasks:

• Read and follow production drawings, specifications, job instructions and engineer requirements relevant to each precast concrete component.
• Construct, prepare, assemble and strip precast concrete formwork and moulds.
• Check moulds and work areas before pouring to ensure dimensions, cleanliness, release agents, reinforcement and cast-in items are correct.
• Place, pour, spread, compact and level concrete using screeds, templates, vibrators and other appropriate equipment.
• Smooth, shape, float, trowel, polish and seal concrete surfaces to the finish required for commercial infrastructure products.
• Install fixtures and cast-in components, which may include anchor bolts, lifting anchors, steel plates, inserts and door sills.
• Prepare, mix, place and finish concrete on vertical and other formed surfaces.
• Protect and cure concrete using approved methods, including plastic sheeting, sand or other specified curing materials.
• Cut control lines, joints and other required details in concrete using appropriate tools and equipment.
• Apply colouring powders, sealers and other specified surface materials to freshly poured concrete when required.
• Operate workshop and site tools, plant and machinery safely, including equipment used to vibrate, float, trowel, grind, cut and polish concrete.
• Work with engineers and supervisors to build and modify precast products and support the assessment of concrete durability and structural requirements.

Other duties:

• Inspect completed work and promptly report defects, dimensional issues or concerns to the supervisor.
• Assist with repairs, patching, remedial finishing and modification of precast components when instructed.
• Clean and maintain moulds, tools, machinery and work areas after use.
• Assist with the safe handling, lifting, storage and movement of precast products and materials.
• Record production, quality and safety information accurately when required.
• Participate in toolbox meetings, training and continuous-improvement activities.
• Fulfil other reasonable duties requested by management or supervisory personnel.
• Ability to produce accurate work to drawings, measurements and required finishes.
• Good practical ability and confidence using hand tools, power tools and concrete-finishing equipment.
• Physically capable of safely completing manual tasks associated with concrete production.
