Job summary

Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora Taranaki seeks a NZ Registered Physiotherapist for preadmission work, providing targeted physiotherapy for elective surgery lists as part of an MDT. The role focuses on safe discharge planning and optimizing preoperative care, in a Hospital setting at Taranaki Base Hospital.

You will collaborate with MDTs to ensure patient-centred care and timely transitions from hospital to home, with emphasis on communication, problem-solving, and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

• Current NZ Physiotherapy Annual Practising Certificate.
• Valid work visa for NZ and drivers licence.
• Hospital experience preferred.
• Problem solving approach.
• Excellent cultural knowledge & practice; Te Reo speaking is an advantage.
• Excellent communication skills to work with staff and patients.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Desire for ongoing self-directed learning.
• Working visa/NZ residence (as appropriate); this role is not suitable for those needing a sponsored work visa.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective physiotherapy interventions to patients listed for elective surgeries as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Develop discharge plans to support planned post-operative care and ensure a safe, timely transition from hospital to home.
• Optimise pre-operative care for patients undergoing planned surgery, ensuring they are prepared for their procedure.
• Collaborate with MDTs and Pre-Admission Teams to develop coordinated, patient-centred pre-operative care plans that support optimal outcomes.
