Job summary

New Zealand Police – Porirua, North Island is seeking a Practice Advisor to join the National Security Systems team, based within the Security Intelligence Group, NIC. The role offers flexible location with remote possibilities and is a full-time position at Band I within the Office of Constable/Police Employee.

The primary purpose is to provide expert guidance, training and assurance on assessment tools, risk management and case practices, driving national consistency and continuous improvement

• Ability to present and communicate in written and verbal form.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Practice Advisor to join the National Security Systems team, based within the Security Intelligence Group, National Intelligence Centre (NIC).

The National Security Person of Interest Operating Framework was established to provide a nationally consistent approach to understanding threats to national security and managing the enduring risk. The purpose of this framework is to detect, understand and prevent acts of terrorism and violent extremism to ensure everyone can Be Safe and Feel Safe.

The National Security Systems (NSS) Team was developed to provide leadership, stewardship, support and advice for all staff operating in this space. Our purpose is to enable our people with the systems, processes and tools to effectively understand and manage national security risk.

The team has a strong focus on continuous improvement and innovation to ensure the operating approach remains effective and relevant in a contemporary threatscape.

The primary purpose of the Practice Advisor role is to provide expert guidance, advice, training, assurance and practice support to staff in the operational application of assessment tools, risk management strategies and case management practices.

By focusing on these areas, this role will be a key source of support for staff, provide assurance to senior leaders, drive a high-performance approach and promote nationally consistency in managing national security concerns.

This role will work closely with the National Security Group, District workgroups and the New Zealand Intelligence Community.

This role supports remote working arrangements. The successful applicant will either be based in Wellington (PNHQ) or work remotely in a district.

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide expert guidance, advice, training, assurance and practice support to Police staff and senior leaders working in the national security space.
• Strong experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, the Investigation Management Tool (IMT) and other Police applications.
• Promote a nationally consistent approach to understanding threats to national security and managing the enduring risk.
• Drive a focus on continuous improvement and innovation across the Operating Framework and case management system.
• Develop and maintain a range of positive relationships across key workgroups and partners.
• Ability to maintain a high quality of work while managing multiple demands.
• Have a strong team focus.
• Ability to present and communicate, in both written and verbal form.

Security Clearance Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a CONFIDENTIAL national security clearance.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:

• A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
• A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $103,836 and $109,983 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
