Job summary

PowerNet in Invercargill, New Zealand is seeking a Power System Technician to test, commission, maintain and fault-find on HV network assets. You will work closely with operational and engineering teams to ensure network reliability, safety and performance, including protection and SCADA systems.

Qualifications

• Three years’ relevant industry experience.
• Experience testing and commissioning electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of protection systems and electrical control systems.
• Experience with HV electrical equipment and network assets.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and protection documentation.
• Commitment to safe work practices.
• Current NZ driver’s licence or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Testing and commissioning electrical distribution network assets.
• Testing and maintaining protection, control and SCADA systems.
• Diagnosing and rectifying faults on high-voltage electrical infrastructure.
• Supporting maintenance and reliability of substations and network equipment.
• Assisting with electrical engineering projects and network upgrades.
• Monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with industry and safety standards.
• Supporting outage planning and switching programmes.
• Assisting with project delivery and capital works.
• Ensuring all activities are completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
• Participating in after-hours standby and emergency response rosters.
