Job summary

Marlborough Lines Limited (MLL) is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to carry out planning and development work on the Marlborough Lines network. You will support renewable energy generation and customer projects to ensure a reliable electricity supply.

In this role you will assess large-scale connections, run load forecasts, develop project scopes and specifications, and provide technical support to project managers. A pre-employment check applies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Electrical (NZQA Level 7) and related accreditation.
  • 5+ years post-grad Electrical Engineering experience in electricity supply.
  • Electrical Distribution Business engineering experience desirable.
  • Power system modelling experience.
  • Problem solving & decision making.
  • Be highly motivated and able to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to set own targets and meet target timeframes.
  • Be well organised with systematic, effective work habits.
  • Ability to accurately and systematically record data.
  • Ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Assess large scale customer connection and modification requests, evaluate capacity, and design solutions.
  • Conduct load reviews and forecasting, identify weaknesses, and propose improvements.
  • Develop technical project scopes for PMs and designers.
  • Develop technical specifications for major items and support procurement.
  • Provide major project technical support to Project Managers.
  • Investigate fault causes and provide recommendations.
  • Develop MLL design, maintenance and construction standards.
  • Assist complex outage planning.

About the role:

The purpose of this role is carry out electrical engineering for planning and development work on the Marlborough Lines network, supporting renewable energy generation and customer projects.

In detail
  • Assess large scale customer connection and modification requests. Evaluate available network capacity and prepare designs to accommodate new and upgraded connections.
  • Conduct load reviews and forecasting, highlight potential power system weaknesses, and develop solutions.
  • Develop scopes for technical projects for use by project managers and designers
  • Develop technical specifications for major items and support procurement
  • Provide major project technical support to Project Managers
  • Carry out investigations into faults cause and provide recommendations
  • Develop MLL design, maintenance and construction standards
  • Assist complex outage planning

About You

To be successful in this role you will need the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Electrical (NZQA Level 7). Washington Accord Accredited degree (desirable)
  • A minimum 5 years’ post-grad Electrical Engineering experience in electricity supply industry.
  • Electrical Distribution Business engineering experience (desirable).
  • Power system modelling experience.
  • Problem solving & decision making.
  • Be highly motivated and able to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to set own targets and meet target timeframes.
  • Be well organised and possess systematic and effective work habits.
  • Ability to accurately and systematically record data.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
