Job summary

Westport Deepsea Fishing School is seeking reliable and full-time Yoga & Fitness Instructors to join our team. Starting pay is $30 to $40 per hour, based on experience, for at least 30 hours a week; overtime will be paid at the above rate.

You will develop tailored yoga and fitness programmes, lead sessions, and ensure client wellbeing. Responsibilities include monitoring progress, adapting programs for different fitness levels, maintaining safety, and fostering a welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• At least one year of relevant work experience in yoga instruction, fitness training, or group/one-on-one sessions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with clients of different fitness levels and needs.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Develop tailored yoga and fitness programmes based on clients’ fitness levels and goals.
• Lead yoga, fitness and group exercise sessions for clients of different ages.
• Demonstrate and teach movements, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices.

Maritime Training for Fishing Industry Jobs

Are you aged between 16-24 recently un-employed, mid to long-term unemployed or just looking to change careers? The Westport Deepsea Fishing School could have an opportunity for you.

The Westport Deepsea Fishing School has a wide range of courses tailored to the Maritime Industry.

We are now seeking expressions of interest for our 2026 courses; The next available intakes will be September 21st October 26th 2026. These courses are subject to age and NCEA qualification criteria.

Or are you currently in the industry and wanting to gain qualifications, check out our for a range of maritime training programs that can lead to deckhands, skippers and engineering licenses,

• Advanced Deckhand Fishing
• MEC5 and 6 Engineering licenses
• STCW Basic training programs

We can offer some of these training programs on a regular and ongoing basis throughout
the year.

Westport Deep Sea Fishing School is seeking applications for our pre-employment programs.

Re-train with industry created programs that will kick start your career in sea going positions on NZ owned deep sea factory ships.

Successful students are facilitated into paid employment in the seafood industry; this however is dependent on usual employment practices, Company and vessel availability.

Starting wages ranging from 60 – 70k per year depending on trip lengths.

The Westport Deep Sea Fishing School is New Zealand's leading provider of pre-employment training for the maritime industry.

We are currently seeking reliable and full-time Yoga & Fitness Instructors to join our team. Starting pay is $30 to $40 per hour, based on experience, for at least 30 hours a week; however, this will be reviewed periodically. Any overtime will be paid at the above pay rate. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a wider range of related tasks, including:

• Develop tailored yoga and fitness programmes based on clients’ fitness levels, health conditions and individual goals.
• Lead yoga, fitness and group exercise sessions for clients of different ages and fitness levels.
• Demonstrate and teach appropriate body movements, stretching, breathing techniques and mindfulness practices.
• Monitor clients’ progress and adjust training programmes where required.
• Provide guidance and encouragement to help clients improve strength, flexibility, fitness and general wellbeing.
• Monitor clients during training sessions to help prevent injuries and provide basic first aid where required.
• Maintain a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
• Support client engagement and membership retention activities
• Keep up to date with relevant fitness, health and safety practices and industry developments.
• Ensure training activities are carried out in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• At least one year of relevant work experience in yoga instruction, fitness training, group exercise or one-on-one training. Alternatively, a relevant qualification.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability to motivate and engage clients.
• Ability to work with clients of different fitness levels and individual needs.
• A genuine interest in health, fitness and wellbeing.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends in accordance with class schedules and private lesson bookings.
• Pre‑employment drug tests and a police check are required.
