Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to join our investment team. You will gain hands‑on experience supporting diversified portfolios, market research, and reporting, working alongside seasoned Portfolio Managers in a hybrid role.

You will contribute to cashflows, rebalancing, trade execution, and performance commentary, while developing dashboards and investment insights for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
• Ideally one year’s experience within the financial services industry.
• Strong spreadsheet skills; intermediate macro or coding is advantageous.
• Experience with Python, Power BI and other analytics tools.
• Experience using AI tools to support research and analysis.
• Experience with Bloomberg or other market data platforms is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Proactive, flexible and results‑focused approach.
• Interest in completing CFA or equivalent postgraduate qualification.

Responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day management of diversified investment portfolios, including cashflows, rebalancing, trade execution and settlements.
• Conduct investment market research and contribute to strategy papers, insights and recommendations.
• Develop and maintain investment indicators and dashboards to support decisions.
• Support external investment manager monitoring and due diligence.
• Prepare performance analysis, investment reporting and market commentary.
• Build relationships with brokers, custodians, fund administrators and other partners.
• Support compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting and sustainable investment analysis.
