Job description

At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. That belief shapes everything we do, from leading the energy transition to how we power Aotearoa and care for our people and communities.

We’re a power, broadband, and mobile company, but we’re also investing boldly in renewable energy and smarter, more connected ways of working ( mahi ). Our ambition is simple: to leave Aotearoa better than we found it.

Guided by our values & behaviours, we’re a team who care deeply about the work we do, how we support one another, and the impact we have. Simply put, we touch lives to make life better.

Our Portfolio Operations team are responsible for electricity and gas reconciliation, making sure the data we submit is accurate and meets industry requirements. The team are also looking for better ways to work, from automating existing processes to improving reporting and how we use data.

As a Portfolio Analyst, you’ll be part of both. You’ll take ownership of core reconciliation activities while using your analytical skills to investigate issues, improve processes and contribute to changes across the team.

Job Description

As a Portfolio Analyst, you’ll work across both the operational and analytical sides of our Portfolio Operations team. You’ll manage electricity and gas reconciliation activities while looking at where data and technology can simplify processes, improve accuracy and support effective decision-making.

It’s a role with plenty of variety. Some days you’ll be working through exceptions or validating data, while others will see you developing reporting, testing solutions or tackling a process that could work better. Throughout it all, you’ll be working in an environment where accuracy and meeting our regulatory obligations matter.

  • Manage electricity and gas reconciliation activities, including data validation, submissions and exception management.
  • Investigate discrepancies and use data to understand issues and determine the right way forward.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and automate processes while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Build, maintain and enhance reporting tools that provide useful visibility across reconciliation activities.
  • Use your technical capability to support testing, process development and changes to the way the team works.
  • Work collaboratively across Portfolio Operations to solve problems and meet industry requirements.
  • Maintain clear, current documentation as processes evolve.
Qualifications

You’ll thrive in this role you’re curious, analytical and keen to understand how things work. You enjoy getting into the detail, working with data and finding practical solutions, while also being comfortable taking ownership of regular operational activities.

  • Experience in data analysis, process development or process improvement.
  • Confidence using Excel and data tools such as Databricks, SQL, Python and Power BI.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to work through discrepancies and complex problems.
  • Good attention to detail and an appreciation for accuracy when working within regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to turn complex information into something clear and useful for others.
  • A proactive, self-managed approach and the ability to work well with others.
  • Curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to learn new tools, processes and ways of working.

Energy industry knowledge would be useful, particularly when it comes to understanding industry rules and compliance, but it isn’t essential. You’ll be supported to learn Contact’s tools and processes, so being willing to learn and get to know the detail will go a long way.
