Job description

Finance Manager (Financial Insights Specialist)
  • Full-time
  • Department: Finance

At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. That belief shapes everything we do, from leading the energy transition to how we power Aotearoa and care for our people and communities.

We’re a power, broadband, and mobile company, but we’re also investing boldly in renewable energy and smarter, more connected ways of working (mahi). Our ambition is simple: to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. Guided by our values & behaviours, we’re a team who care deeply about the work we do, how we support one another, and the impact we have. Simply put, we touch lives to make life better.

As Contact continues to grow and invest in New Zealand's energy future, the Finance team plays a critical role in helping the business make confident, commercially informed decisions. This fixed-term opportunity sits within our Financial Insights group (rōpū) and supports the Trading function, one of the most commercially significant and dynamic parts of our business. You’ll work at the intersection of commercial finance, electricity markets, operational performance, and long-term business planning, helping leaders understand what is happening today and what it could mean for tomorrow.

Working alongside finance and trading leaders, you’ll connect what is happening across our operations, the electricity market, and our financial performance. You’ll turn complex information into meaningful insights, helping leaders understand risks, opportunities, and the decisions that will shape future outcomes.

TeWhiwhingamahi | The Opportunity

This is a role for someone who enjoys making sense of complexity and influencing decisions through insight.

Partnering with Contact's Trading function, you’ll work closely with finance and business leaders to bring together operational, market, and financial information into a clear, commercially relevant story. You’ll connect performance, risk, market conditions, and future planning, ensuring decision-makers have the insight they need to act with confidence.

Over the course of this fixed term, you’ll contribute to significant forecasting, performance reporting, and long-range planning activities, helping shape how the business understands performance and makes investment decisions into the future.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with Finance and Trading leaders to provide commercially relevant insights that support decision making.
  • Translate financial, operational, and market information into meaningful analysis, performance commentary, and recommendations.
  • Deliver on forecasting, budgeting, and planning activities, ensuring leaders have clarity on emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Support enterprise reporting and financial insight frameworks that enable consistent, decision-ready information.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance and the wider business, influencing conversations through trusted advice and sound judgement.
  • Play a key role in significant planning and reporting initiatives, including long-term forecasting and strategic planning activities.
  • Ensure insight deliverables are accurate, transparent, and of a high technical standard.

Kowaikoe| About You

You're someone who naturally looks beyond the numbers to understand the commercial story underneath. You're curious, commercially minded, and comfortable working where there are lots of moving parts. You enjoy helping people navigate uncertainty by providing clear insight, thoughtful challenge, and practical advice. You're naturally interested in understanding emerging risks, opportunities, and the factors that influence future performance.

You'll likely bring:

  • Significant experience in commercial finance, financial insights, business partnering, or a similar discipline.
  • The ability to combine technical finance expertise with commercial judgement to support business decisions, assess risk, and identify opportunities.
  • Strong technical finance capability, with the ability to confidently challenge assumptions, understand financial drivers, and provide robust analysis.
  • Experience working within complex, commercially focused organisations where revenue, cost, performance, and strategic decision making are closely linked.
  • The ability to interpret data, identify trends, and communicate insights clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Confidence building relationships with senior stakeholders, with the ability to influence conversations, shape thinking, and build alignment.
  • Sound judgement in identifying emerging risks, opportunities, and patterns that support better decision making.
  • Experience operating in environments with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and evolving business needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style and bring people on the journey.
  • Experience within energy, electricity markets, financial services, trading environments, capital markets, or other commercially complex industries would be valuable.

Additional Information

This is a fixed-term position through to mid-August 2027.

We support flexible working where it works for the individual, the team and the business. For this role, Wellington is the preferred location, as regular in-person collaboration with the Trading function and key stakeholders will be important to your success.
